Dear Guest,

Cogito Consulting Blog Welcome

I welcome you to the Cogito Consulting Blogsite, Cogito Consulting’s entry into the African creative industry is a final attempt towards the renaissance project, thus our resolve to make the knowledge and creative economy vibrant and productive is a direct challenge to poverty in Nigeria and in fact Africa.

Corporate Belief:

At Cogito Consulting, we believe the future of Africa is free of petty hunger and insecurity but of abundance and satisfaction. We believe as well that the roadmap to Africa’s development is incomplete without the productive energy of Nigeria’s young population, an that the goal of poverty eradication and optimization of resources is a function of society’s provision of alternative education and empowerment of this population segment especially in the areas of skill acquisition and incubation infrastructure for SMEs and cottage industries in the creative and knowledge economy.

Mission Statement:

Being very active in reconciling ideas as they flash through our brain is a grace. Creativity is a gift from the source, no one can simply use all the ideas that comes to his mind. As I would like to see some of these ideas tried in the world, I began to explore the creative economy.

My purpose is to explore how a team of consultants of diverse socio-cultural and disciplinary background can synergize, to create ideas and enterprise development solutions to individuals, companies, corporations, and nonprofit charitable organizations government and society through this web site.

Cogito Consulting concerns itself with the emerging knowledge economy in Africa; we provide specialized services for our clientele in the creative industry especially in the areas of advisory, research and enterprise development.

In the same vein, Cogito was also part of the Lisabi Day Celebration which was bankrolled by MTN Nigeria. Cogito created a book readership platform at the celebration. The Readership formed the bedrock of the proposed Community Library Project and the 360˚ Business Klub – a school based investment and business program.

Upon our strategic expansion to Abuja, Cogito Consulting has entered into support service contracts and partnership with groups and individuals in furtherance of our ideals, especially the Foundation for Basic Legal Empowerment which is planning a translation of the Nigerian Constitution to major languages.

Cogito also has a proposal for a supply of customized campaign vehicles to Mr. Deji Ajayi. The campaign vehicles are products of Motourism – a project which was researched by Cogito’s Tourism Consultants.

For our friends in the Law School who have just started a forum on www.facebook.com we have created working relationship that has manifested this beautiful work.

We are gradually consolidating efforts to take our special campus programmes to all institutions in the country. The programmes are the Capacity Building Programme for Union Leaders in Nigerian Institutions and Campus Quiz.

Many countries are using tourism, art, culture and other areas of national aesthetics to leverage their economy and to reap new development benefits. Nigeria, like many of such countries, recognizes tourism as one part of a balanced economy. This is evident in the new national policy thrust as contained in President Yar’Adua’s 7 Point Agenda.

* Consumer spending on travel and tourism in Illinois has increased every year for the last 13 years. But Nigeria is yet to develop historical and cultural destinations other than for a few spread across board.

This kind of tourism, also known as cultural heritage tourism, is expected to be the fastest growing segment of the market. Because of aggressive marketing to attract new visitors, heritage tourism is stimulating economies, generating new jobs and creating renewed pride and recognition of the value of s communities.

What is Cultural Heritage Tourism?

Cultural heritage tourism focuses on making history come alive and experiencing life in a community as it used to be. In other words, visitors can learn about the past while exploring the present. In a practical sense, it means maintaining and preserving tangible community assets, such as historic places, buildings and sites, as well as intangible assets like traditions, customs and folklore. Local communities identify and share their stories through museums, theaters, historic sites, fairs, festivals, ethnic diversity, music and the arts.

Cultural heritage tourism seeks to develop natural historic and cultural sites with the strongest potential to increase economic impact. Benefits to a local community may include: an expanded tax base, increased tax revenues, increased production and sale of goods and services, better property values and new jobs. Increased economic activity benefits local banks, which see increasing deposits and loan demand.

The greatest challenge faced by the project leaders is product development because it requires consensus, capital and a thorough understanding of the market (consumer preferences, demand and available opportunities). To meet this challenge, developers have begun working extensively with the economic development organizations in the region to begin a planning process. Future research will include a description of the new business created as a result of heritage tourism development.

Conclusion

The development of heritage tourism is an arduous process, taking years to reach its potential. This is largely because development is a joint effort, leveraging public and private resources. However, the benefits can be significant.
